Keira Cumberland

Founder and owner, pilates collective slo | co-FOUNDER PCI EDUCATION | Pilates instructor

Keira grew up as an athlete: dancing, playing soccer, running track, and practicing martial arts (Muay Thai); she says her first language is movement.

She attended California State University at Long Beach in 2003 as a Dance major and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Science and a minor in Political Science. She discovered Pilates at CSULB through the dance department and was later certified through Body Arts and Science International (BASI) in 2009 with Karen Clippinger.

Since her certification, she has continued her Pilates education, regularly attending workshops and private lessons to expand her wheelhouse. Keira strives to remain true to the original work created by Joseph Pilates; she has become an avid student of the authentic system of exercises passed down through Joe’s most trusted practitioners.

In 2017, Keira's dad suffered a life-changing stroke leading her to discover the amazing Pilates for Neurological Conditions community. She is proud to know and share tools from all parts of the Pilates Industry: from contemporary to classical practices, from sports conditioning to rehabilitation for Neurological conditions.

In 2017 she founded Pilates Collective SLO and has created and co-created a series of Pilates Education tools, including PCS Passport, PCS Teacher Training Program, the PCS Mat Certification Course, and more, in her endeavor to better “share this incredible movement system and its endless benefits.”

Before opening Pilates Collective SLO in 2017, Keira taught Pilates and managed Pilates studios for small and large fitness clubs in Los Angeles and San Diego County and has worked as a sales and revenue consultant for Pilates studios helping them increase their bottom line.

Apart from Pilates, she is also a licensed, practicing California attorney focused primarily on advocating for equal access to the law and helping parties find common ground through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) after attending continuing education in ADR from the Straus Institute at Pepperdine University.

Keira’s mission is to equip future generations of Pilates students and teachers with the tools to be autonomous practitioners of this incredible method. She also enjoys helping instructors think outside the box in their teaching methods, practice, and business to achieve more satisfying and lucrative careers.

If you’d like to learn more about the Classical Pilates System, add to your current Neuro-Rehab Program, or request a mentorship session with Keira by contacting the studio.

hilary ryan norcross

pilates instructor

After dancing with American Ballet Theatre in NYC and running a personal and group fitness business in Seattle, Hilary returned to Pilates after a hip injury sidelined a marathon attempt. Classical Pilates provided a full-body workout that helped strengthen her hip but also provided a method that allowed her to explore how movement really restores the body.

After training for a year, Hilary entered the apprentice program with her mentor Dorothee Vandewalle and completed the M.A.T. certification in 2015. Hilary continues to train with Dorothee, and also has studied with Karen Frischman, Mejo Wiggins, and Andrea Maida to name a few!

Hilary loves working with people to transform their bodies as well as to watch clients get empowered not only when at the studio but also in life.

"When you continuously move, you build not only endurance and stamina but also perseverance. Grit is my favorite four-letter word."

Chelsey Harper

pilates instructor

Chelsey is a central coast native certified through Pilates Collective SLO in 2021. Taking the approach to walk first, not run, towards her certification, she first completed PCS’ Mat Certification Course in 2020 before diving into the fully comprehensive program.

Being a high mover all her life, movement in adulthood came with injuries. It all began when she dislocated her shoulder and three ribs while at risk of rupturing both Achilles. Through the pain, she continued to move for longer than she should have because she says that, at that time, dance was a part of her identity. She had been dancing as long as she could walk. So, she turned to pilates over a decade ago and never looked back. She says it healed her from the inside out and gave her a new appreciation for the ability to do small everyday tasks.

As a teacher now, Chelsey specializes in helping you reclaim your life after injury through thoughtful movement to build strength and stability. She believes that we should and can live our fullest lives!

Outside the studio, you'll catch Chelsey running around with her daughter to all her activities or hanging out at a local coffee shop.

After that, she branched out, experimenting with all types of fitness, including running, swimming, and a stint as an aerobics instructor.
