“TAG someone who squats!



Let’s start by saying that “neutral spine” doesn’t mean a fixed position.. rather, it means a range where the spine can move (flex/extend) without troubles.

Quite infact, if you’ve ever squatted ATG (ass to grass) you’ve noticed your pelvis rolling backwards at the bottom and no matter how hard you try not to, if you really want to get deeper, you’ll have to. But, is that a bad thing?

The problem comes when the lumbar flexion exceeds the “neutral range” and it becomes evident. That’s where problems start to happen.

Bottom line: IF you’re keeping your chest up, back tight & neutral, and squatting the weight through your legs... the butt wink won’t be a problem.

On the other hand, if you’re actually squatting the weight up wih your back, well, you need to re-evaluate your technique!”

Research has shown, activities that make you more aware of your internal sensations (like meditation, Pilates, yoga and other mindful activities) will help build a part of your brain that assists you in recognizing similar sensations in others.

As you increase your capacity to better understand yourself, you also increase your ability to empathize.

It is very common for people new to #Pilates to feel uncomfortable with the relationship we ask you to find with your body. “How does that feel?” “Where do you feel that?” “Is that a different sensation than you have felt before?” For some clients, this awareness of their bodies is brand new. But this heightened awareness not only brings you more information about the amazing body you call home, but it turns out, these new connections can also help your connection with others.

Tips for a healthier Thanksgiving...


Have you met Ginger, PCS's dedicated Registered Dietician? We asked her "what are some tips to help us stay on track with our fitness and wellness routines through Thanksgiving?" She gave us some great rules to live by this weekend.

1.  Eat a breakfast high in protein to help curb hunger and portions throughout the day.

2. Have prepped veggies to snack on while cooking if you're a mindless eater in the kitchen.

3. Load up on lighter and cleaner appetizers such as fresh vegetables.

4. Set a limit on alcohol and choose lower calorie options such as lite beer, wine, or a vodka soda.

5. Exercise! Exercise before and after your meal. Exercise helps reduce hunger before the meal and will help elevated blood sugars after.

6. Stop eating when you're 80% full. Push the plate away! You can do it :). Instead, focus that energy on conversations with the people around you and actively listen.  You’ll have much better memories of a meal enjoyed than a meal overindulged in. 

7.  Drink lots of water or calorie-free seltzer water. We tend to eat more when we are dehydrated. Plus, the volume of liquid while keeping you fuller and satisfied.

8.  Disregard the "food-pushers". Many times we have a notorious food-pusher in the crowd. Go prepared with a goal and stick to it.

9.  Have you been invited to dinner?  Volunteer to take a dish and bring your own healthy, veggie-filled entree.

Apart from eating, keep your mind and body active this week with a Pilates session or class. We are open Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday (and we will have a lot of energy for you post-pumpkin pie!). See you in the studio this week!

1. Get upside down in the studio as pictured,
2. Substitute the phrase "I have to" with "I get to,"

5. Turn off your smart device for an hour and engage in self-care instead.
